Rodeo Of Life
The Cancer Hospital
The Hospital Of Love
Inaugurated in May 2010, the “Os Independentes” pavillion in the Barretos Cancer Hospital is a tribute to the producers of the Barretos Rodeo. The entity has been a partner of the Cancer Hospital for 18 years. One of the Rodeo´s concert nights has its full revenue donated to the Pious XII Foundation, as well as supporting many other charitable actions.
With 2200m², the pavillion holds the radiology department where image diagnosis tests are carried out: MRI´s, radiologies, ultra-sounds, mammograms, CT Scans and Image Guided Biopsies. Currently, 9.000 tests are done each month, along with 2.500 CT Scans, 670 MRI´s and 250 biopsies.
Once again the Barretos Cancer Hospital has had a great partnership with “Os Independentes”: a union that grows stronger year after year, with all the revenues of the first Sunday donated to our institution. Besides that, there is also the “Challenge of Kindness” which happens during the Rodeo´s closing ceremony, on the second Sunday. The presence of new companies and entrepreneurs that come to enjoy the event and get to know what the Hospital does, grows each year, which is very important to make more partnerships in social projects feasible. In the entertainment sector, we have the example of the solidarity of our country singers, who in their majority have donated their Barretos purses to the Cancer Hospital, with a total of almost R$ 1 million in donations. There is no doubt that the Barretos Rodeo is a clear example of how a sport can help a cause that is so much in need of aid.Henrique Prata, General Director Barretos Cancer Hospital
Bone Marron Campaign
Cowboy's Park
For the third consecutive year the Ministry of Health has promoted the national launch of its campaigns during the Barretos Rodeo. In 2008 – the Tuberculosis Campaign; 2009 – STD/AIDS Campaign and in 2010, through a partnership between the Barretos Cancer Hospital, the Ministry of Health, Os Independentes and INCA (National Cancer Institute) the Barretos Rodeo hosted a Bone Marrow Donor Registration Campaign which resulted in 2000 possible donors. The Campaign happened throughout the eleven days of the Rodeo. The great diversity of people that the event brings together, coming from all over the country, was a decisive factor for the success of the Campaign. During the event even performing artists joined the Campaign contributing to its disclosure and bringing even more attention to this highly important cause.
Diante do trono (Gospel Group)
The Bone Marrow Voluntary Donor Registration Campaign that happened on the day of the recording of the DVD “Diante do Trono – Ministry of Worship” resulted in over 1200 possible donors. The event happened on the 17th of July 2010. Many people from all over the country participated, giving the Barretos Cancer Hospital the chance to register people from different regions and ethnic backgrounds, thus increasing the chances of finding compatible donors for patients who don´t have compatible donors in their families. A special structure was set up to receive the donors. Around 200 people worked on the Registration Campaign, amongst them registration officers, nurse technicians and nurses. .

Os Independentes were responsible for building the laundry at the Elderly Persons Nursing Home “Village of the Poor”, an entity that houses around 60 underprivileged elderly people from the Barretos region. This action was carried out together with the Barretos Commercial and Industrial Association (ACIB).
On the 23rd, 24th and 25th of August 2010, the Barretos Rodeo charged a R$2.00 symbolic entry fee which totaled R$85.000. The rest of the money for the laundry was also donated by Os Independentes.

The Municipal Market is a historical and cultural mark of Barretos. Most commonly known as the “Mercadão”, it was revitalized with a donation of over 900 litres of paint and 25 litres of paint thinner by Os Independentes.
One of the objectives of the Association, with this initiative, which was carried out together with the local Town Hall, was to recover the town´s history and its country roots.

Dengue Campaign
“Os Independentes” supports the Dengue Campaign Committee and mobilizes the population, entrepreneurs and service providers to help combat the disease which already has more than one thousand cases registered in Barretos. Concerns towards this disease only increase during the rainy season when precautions must be doubled. One of President Marcos Murta´s initiatives was to use part of his publicity midia to help spread the Campaign created by the Municipal Town Hall and to reinforce awareness with the aid of over one hundred collaborators from the Association. There will also be donations of ticket packages for the 2011 Barretos Rodeo which will be part of the prizes of the encouragement campaign carried out in local schools. “We believe that if everyone does their part, we can succeed in fighting this disease” says the President, who appeals to the population and entrepreneurs to join the Campaign.
Food For Entities
On the day of the shows of two great phenomena of current Brazilian music, the Luan Santana and Jorge & Matheus concerts, Os Independentes created an action to help Barretos entities. Whoever donated one kilo of non-perishable food would get a discount on the concert ticket. The result: tonnes of food for many of the town’s entities.

SSF receives donations of children’s hygiene products from Os Independentes
In December 2010, Os Independentes donated childrens hygiene products to the SSF (Social Solidarity Fund). Almost 12 thousand bottles of shampoo, conditioner and cologne were donated along with thousands of combs, bags and little cups.
The products were delivered by President Marcos Murta to the SSF President Adriane Angélica de Lemos Carvalho. All the products were separated into kits and sent on to assistance entities and to the Municipal Children’s Education Centres (CEMEI´s). “These are products of good quality that will help children supported by these entities and the CEMEI´s” says the SSF President.

Santa Casa de Barretos
The “Santa Casa Hospital” gets special attention from Os Independentes. Many actions contemplate fund raising so this Hospital can tend to its patients that come from all over the region, with respect and dignity. Just during its last edition of the Barretos Rodeo, R$ 462.000 was donated from joint actions with sponsors, equipment, auctions and money donations. With this money the “Santa Casa” was able to install an air conditioning unit in the Neonatal ICU; acquire a new energy generator; payed off debts and carried out some maintenance works. Since 2002, every Os Independentes Directing Body Inauguration Ceremony has its proceeds donated to the Hospital. In 2010 for example, R$ 33.055 was donated, which will be used to build an Intensive Therapy Unit.
