Rodeo Arena

With a seating capacity for 35 thousand people, the Rodeo Arena was designed by world renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer and is built in the shape of a horse shoe.

Stepping into the arena makes one feel the emotion of being in a place that has seen some of the greatest challenges in Brazilian rodeo as well as some of the greatest names of this sport, some of the greatest animals and some of the most challenging disputes.

Country Ranch

A convention room decorated in the style of a ranch, the Country Ranch is where members of Os Independentes gather for the monthly assembly. Some of the most important decisions regarding the Barretos Rodeo happen during these assemblies.

Cowboy Museum

Who was the first cowboy to win the Barretos Rodeo?
How many founders of the biggest rodeo in Latina America are there?
These and many other questions are answered in the Cowboy Museum which has a great selection of photographs and facts since the founding of Os Independentes in 1955.

Little Cowboy Park

A place especially built for kids with the objective of bringing them closer to the universe of Brazilian roots culture through cultural, ecological and educational projects and lots of entertainment.

Little Farm

The Little Farm has wood burning stoves and ovens, a mill, a flour house, a still and of course, lovely farm treats available for visitors.

Queima do alho

This is a typical type of culinary done by the Brazilian cattle drovers who spent months at a time travelling around the country. As they would spend from 3 to 6 months on the road they had to carry with them non-perishable food on the backs of horses.

The Queima do Alho has in its menu: “arroz carreteiro” – rice cooked with sun dried meat, “feijão gordo”- beans cooked with pork sausage and sun dried meat, “paçoca de carne” – manioc flour also cooked with sun dried meat and a barbecue. All the food is prepared on a makeshift stove built close to the ground.

Souvenirs

The Official Souvenir shop has a great variety of products for you to purchase such as pens, key rings, t-shirts, baseball caps and many other items.

Take with you a “small piece” of our land by acquiring an official product of the greatest Rodeo.

General Information

The history of the creation of the Barretos Rodeo starts on the 15th of July 1955 in a local bar. A few lads from the Barretos society decided to found a club later named “Os Independentes”. All members had to be single and financially independent.

The Barretos Rodeo wasn´t born on a whim, but as a tribute to one of the most important characters of the cultural and economic history of this region, the Brazilian cowboy. The main attraction of the event is the Rodeo.
